Tehran – The 2024 World University Rankings (WUR) report by the Islamic World Science Citation Centre (ISC) includes 69 to 72 Iranian universities in 2023.
A total of 426 universities from 31 Islamic countries are listed in the rankings, with Turkey having 102 universities and Iran, 72 universities, and Pakistan having 39 universities positioned first to third.
Among the top universities in Islamic countries, Saudi Arabia ranks 172nd. Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia and Egypt jointly rank between 401 and 450, while Qatar ranks between 451 and 500, with Türkiye, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon ranks between 501 and 600.
The University of Tehran rankings have been changed from 501-600 in 2023 to 401-500 in 2024. The university is first placed in the country.
Tehran Medical University is second in the ranking. The university’s global rankings are 501-600, up from 601-700 in 2023.
The rankings for Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences have improved from 801-900 in 2023 to 601-700 in 2024, ranking third in the country.
Sharif University of Technology and Turbiat Modernes University are located in fourth and fifth, respectively.
ISC WUR 2024 has 2,661 top universities from 114 countries and six continents. Harvard University, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, London University and Oxford University are the top five universities.
ISC WUR is one of the ranking systems that began ranking universities in 2018 with the aim of evaluating universities and world-class Islamic countries for the first time by the ISC Rankings Division.
The ISC evaluates the universities, taking into account the most important missions of the universities, which are research (60%), education (10%), international activities (15%), technology and innovation (15%), to rank the world universities on a standard basis.
Moreover, the number of university withdrawals is calculated by the negative score included in a criterion called negative reputation.

Shanghai University Rankings 2025 has placed six Iranian universities in 1,000 institutions around the world, starting from nine in 2024.
