TEHRAN – Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian told a group of political activists in his country during a television interview that he believes the US will not start moving towards peace anytime soon, adding that Iran is not seeking war but is always ready to fight.
When asked about the possibility of a new war between Israel and Washington, the president, known as part of the country’s more generous politician, made a statement regarding his involvement with the West. The US-Israel strikes struck Iran for 12 days in June, damaging Iran’s nuclear, military and civilian infrastructure, killing more than 1,000 Iranians. Iran responded with a barrage of missiles and drones, and eventually forced Israeli and American leaders to retreat and demand a ceasefire.
Washington said the purpose of the war was to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. However, the lack of evidence to support the claim, the conduct of wars, and the rhetoric it employed at various points in the conflict suggests that the true purpose is the subversion of the Islamic Republic. Pezeschkian himself was targeted at least once during the 12-day war in an attempt to assassinate him.
In the interview, Pezeshkian recalls a book he read as a student who spoke about the Vietnam War, and fully encapsulated US foreign policy. “The United States is reluctant to abandon global interests, but sovereign countries and their people refuse to abandon their resources,” he explained, adding that Americans “will never stop these actions.”
Approximately six months after his inauguration, Pezeshkian began attending indirect consultations with the United States to discuss Iran’s nuclear program. The June war broke out just days before both parties were scheduled to meet in Muscat for a sixth round talk. Many believe that the US is never authentic about diplomacy, and simply put pressure on Iran to join the talks to make it seem like there’s no war going on.
“Beautiful and attractive images Behind the American project is an ominous reality. If you look closely, you will see faces that mercilessly kill women, children, elderly people, illnesses. But these same people preach about “democracy.”
Pezeshkian said it would be difficult for the US to repeat the attack if Iranians unite and cooperate. Nevertheless, Iran is always ready to defend itself. “We’re not after the war. I said that from the first day, but I’m not afraid of war.”
Iranian leaders have said they have spread his criticism to European countries and accused Iran of violating them while they were violating them. He specifically mentioned the so-called snapback mechanism. This allows JCPOA signatories to re-test UN sanctions against Tehran if they do not comply with it. Germany, France and the UK on Thursday informed the UN Security Council that they are evoking mechanisms despite having scrapped all of their own commitments for years, and also supported the recent strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“We don’t want a snapback at all,” he said. “However, it is doubtful how some European countries that violate many international laws are doing now that they accuse them of not respecting the framework. How can such claims be accepted?”
Pezeschkian said his main focus was the preservation of Iran’s unity, regardless of future measures taken by the Western province.
