Tehran – Iran’s Indonesian ambassador, Lorianya Smirat, stressed the importance of strengthening cultural relations and people-to-people connections between Iran and Indonesia, along with traditional economic and political cooperation.
Speaking at a press conference with an Iranian journalist on Monday, Ambassador Smirat said his engagement with the media provided a valuable opportunity to get to know Iran and said, “It’s been a month since I envisioned my post as an Indonesian ambassador.
The ambassador expressed his gratitude for the participation of Iranian journalists in the “Referral Trip to Indonesia” programme, describing it as an effective platform for promoting cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations. “We hope that participants will understand Indonesian culture, tourism and opportunities accurately and help them introduce these aspects to the Iranian masses,” he said.
Sumirat highlighted the embassy’s efforts to design well-prepared programs despite logical limitations, and emphasized that the initiative aims to create a fostering environment for interaction. “We hope that cooperation will go beyond this programme and expand into further discussion and expand future collaborations,” he added.
Addressing questions about media collaboration, the ambassador pointed out the possibility of expanding existing ties between Iran and Indonesian media organizations. “We are trying to create opportunities for greater understanding and awareness among the media in both countries,” he said.
The ambassador emphasized that the media serves as a bridge between people in both countries, strengthening both the official and people-to-people relationships. “We hope that Iranian journalists will have a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and traditions, but we hope that Indonesian journalists will also become familiar with Iranian heritage,” he said.
At the end of the meeting, he thanked Iranian media experts for their involvement and hoped that the dialogue marks the beginning of broader cooperation between Iran and Indonesia.
