Tehran – In a move to signal unity, Iran, Russia and China jointly denounced the European powerhouse (E3) trying to confront the JCPOA’s so-called snapback mechanism as “legally unfounded” and “political destruction.”
Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci, along with his counterparts Wang Yi and Sergei Lavrov, solidified this unwavering stance in a signed letter at the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China.
Araghchi emphasized that E3’s actions are invalid as they deliberately ignore a series of events. The first violation of US JCPOA and Resolution 2231, followed by the “shameful” US sanctions and their own obligations in lieu of support. These facts declared by Araghchi must be at the heart of the Security Council’s debate.
The Joint Declaration also highlights the indivisibility of rights and obligations under international law, and stresses that the parties’ failure to respect their commitment cannot claim profits from contracts that they actively undermine. The European proposition argued that it would “betray the mission of the Security Council,” and turned it into a tool of coercion rather than a guardian of global stability. “The urgent challenge before us is to provide the necessary basis for restoring international law and successfully diplomacy based on it,” the declaration read.
