TEHRAN – Iraqi Deputy Minister of Higher Education Science and Research, Haider Abd Dahhed said he is interested in sending talented students to study at Iran’s top state universities.
“We are optimistic to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to achieve this goal,” the IRNA quoted Dahed as saying.
Officials made a speech in a meeting Sunday with Saeed Habiba, head of the student affairs organization.
Referring to his position in the international rankings of Iranian universities, Dahed said that the quality of education and degree is truly important to us. Iraqi students begin majoring in the medical field, but according to the law, they must return to Iraq in a year. I hope that this problem will be resolved so that Iraqi students can benefit from educational opportunities to complete their courses here in Iran.
On his part, Habiba highlighted the cultural, religious and historical commonalities between the two countries. Referring to the country’s five-year plan, authorities said: “We look forward to attracting the best Iraqi students to study here. We don’t ignore their educational weaknesses, if they lead to their expulsion.”
Currently, 30,000 Iraqi students are majoring in engineering and medical fields at various universities in the country. Most of them are graduate students.
Officials proposed to exchange professors and students to promote cooperation between the two countries.
On Saturday, Dahed met with Minister of Science Hossain Shimaei Saraf. Officials agreed to sign the MOU according to granting scholarships to top Iranian students to study at the best Iranian universities.
He also paid visits to several universities and tertiary education centres and had signed Mous with Shahid Beheshti University and Sharif Institute of Technology, Saorg.ir reported.
