TEHRAN – A total of 4.9 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the country from the beginning of the summer on June 22nd to September 4th, indicating a 43% decrease from the long-term figure of 8.5 mm, according to the weather organization.
According to the latest report, from August 29th to September 4th, the country received 0.7 mm of rainfall. This was a 5.1% decrease compared to long-term recorded 0.8 mm rain, Isna reports.
From the beginning of the Iranian calendar month on August 23 to September 4, the recorded precipitation amount was 1 millimeter, 37.2% less than the long-term recorded amount, 1.6 mm.
Since the start of the current water year (23 September 2024), until September 4, the country received an average of approximately 139.2 mm of rain. This was a 40.1% decrease compared to the long-term 232.2 mm.
Rainfall in all states is less than normal. Sistan-Baluchestan and Hormozgan states record lowest rainfall, receiving 71.3 and 70.7% less rainfall than usual, respectively.
Tehran is one of the provinces where precipitation has significantly reduced. The long-term average rainfall in Tehran is 276.2 mm, but in the current year of water, it only received an average of 142.5 mm, indicating a 48.4% decrease.
Rain over 250 mm in the previous water
The previous water years (September 22, 2023 – September 22, 2024) ended with a precipitation of 252.7 mm.
Although it was bothering me that there was low precipitation at the beginning of the previous water year, the amount of precipitation improved over time.
Due to years of drought, increased rainfall does not compensate for the country’s water shortage, and some states are suffering from water shortages, the IRNA reported.
A total of 10 states have less rainfall than normal.
According to the latest report, the total recorded rainfall for the previous Water 5 years (ends September 23) was 252.7 mm.
It shows a 2% increase compared to the long-term figure of 248.7 mm.
