TEHRAN – Iran’s Chinese ambassador, Konpei, held a press conference at his country’s embassy in northern Tehran on Sunday, inviting journalists from major Iranian and China media. For almost two hours he discussed the recent SCO summit. It has been characterized as the largest collection of blocks to date.
The press conference consisted of two major segments. This is a Q&A session with CONG’s own summit evaluation and reporters. His remarks focus primarily on five initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, an initiative that addresses unilateral unilateralism in the current Western-led world order. Kong said they are designed to guide organizations towards a more “dynamic” and “future-oriented” role in global operations.
The SCO Summit, held in Tianjin, China from August 31st to September 1st, attracted considerable attention in western media. Some analysts view the size and honest interaction of the rally between India’s Narendra Modi, China’s XI, and Russia’s Vladimir Putin as an important indicator that countries around the world no longer view the US as a trusted partner. Such sentiment has largely arisen from US President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff policy targeting both his allies and his enemies, as well as the violation of diplomatic ornamental decoration in his exchange with world leaders.
However, there are commentators on mainstream American media who downplayed the importance of the summit, suggesting that their participants can achieve almost beyond photography opportunities and joint statements. “Foreign policy experts” told Fox News that SCO members are politically diverse and are often divided to unite and challenge the Western-led world order.
When asked about such statements, Kong said that equality and justice have been central to the principles of SCOs for the past 24 years, and that these objectives will be pursued more closely thanks to Xi Jinping’s initiative from the recent summit, the Global Governance Initiative.
“Global development is occurring at a rapid pace. President XI’s global governance initiative is very timely. It is welcomed during the summit and is undoubtedly widely welcomed on an international scale,” the envoy said.
After the session, the Chinese ambassador took several minutes to speak with the Tehran Times about Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian’s recent visit to China. The visit was originally intended to include a gathering of SCOs, but ultimately featured a meeting with President XI on a military parade in Beijing to commemorate the end of World War II.
After returning to Tehran after a four-day stay in China, the longest Iranian president ever made Pagesheschkian informed reporters that his discussion with XI had led to important decisions on bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and defense sector. His foreign minister, Abbas Araguchi, described the president’s visit to China as “historic.”
When asked whether Beijing shared an assessment of the Iranian conference, Kong confirmed that it did. “This trip marked President Pezeschkian’s first visit to China, which is important in itself. Furthermore, President Pezeschkian’s visit was a success. During the meeting between President Pezeschkian and President Xi Jinping, important discussions took place regarding future decisions in various fields.”
The envoy added that the meeting is likely to inspire both countries to implement further 25-year cooperation agreements signed over the past four years. Strategic partner.
“Despite potential regional and global development, China is still committed to maintaining stable relations with Iran. We envision a comprehensive strategic partnership that benefits both countries.”
