Tehran – Seyed Amma al-Hakim, leader of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement (NWM), met with senior adviser to lead Tehran Ali Akbar Velayati to discuss bilateral relations and strengthen regional cooperation.
During the meeting, Verayati emphasized the historical, cultural and religious ties between Iran and Iraq, explaining that they are rooted in shared heritage and long-standing neighbours. “Iran makes its relationship with Iraq very important. Iraq’s independence, stability and progress are paramount to our country,” he said.
Verayati expressed confidence that Iraq will have more success in the future and will depend on the unshakable support of religious authorities (Marja) and national leaders.
Hakim praised Iran’s performance during the 12-day conflict with Israel and said he showed outstanding military and strategic capabilities under the leadership of Ayatollah Seiyed Ali Khamenei, the military and strong national support. “Iran has shown an important and influential image to the world during this conflict,” he pointed out. He said Iran’s actions launched a major strike against the Israeli regime for the first time in 76 years, challenging international heights.
The two sides also exchanged opinions on ongoing regional development, including Israeli provocations, and highlighted the need for unity of Islamic countries facing external threats. They agreed on the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in political, security and economic fields.
Hakim and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi also discussed strengthening security cooperation between Iraq and Iran, highlighting the continued joint efforts to comply with existing security agreements and maintain regional stability.
The conference concluded with both sides reaffirming the importance of political and diplomatic coordination between Baghdad and Tehran as the basis for the region’s lasting stability.
