TEHRAN – A total of 133 earthquakes were recorded in a week, according to the earthquake network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics.
Statistically, there are 114 earthquakes with a size less than 3. A 17 earthquake, between 3 and 4 size. According to the IRNA, two earthquakes occurring in the country, ranging from 4 to 5.
Of the total, the Richter scale that occurred on September 9th in the Hormozgan state was 4.2.
Of the states of the country, 22-year-old Khorasan Razavi had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by Mazandaran and Karmann Provinces with 13 and 12 earthquakes respectively.
During the same period, no earthquakes were recorded in Tehran, West Azarbaijan, Alborz, Ilam, Zanjan, Kazbin and Kohirue-Boiramad provinces.
According to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 -March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
