TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi has reiterated Tehran’s unwavering support for a Muslim country facing the “Israel tragedy” that is terrorizing the region.
His comments come amidst the rising tensions following the Israeli missile strike in Doha, which targeted Palestinian resistance leaders.
Posting on his X account on Monday, Aragut highlighted Iran’s solidarity with Qatar and the broader Muslim world. “We are here to provide a clear message of support from the Iranian people to all Muslim countries for the tragedy that threatens the region,” he said. Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian will be taking part in the Arab Islamic Summit in Doha, which was convened in response to Israel’s latest regional provocation.
The Doha strike, held by Israel on September 9, engaged in discussions over the US proposal plan for Hamas leaders to end the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza. The main Hamas figures survived, but five Gaza-based resistance members and Qatari security guards were killed. The attack elicited international condemnation for violating Qatar’s sovereignty and international law.
“Muslims must take effective and collective action to counter Israeli attacks.”
Araguchi called on Islamic countries to take “effective and collective” action to counter Israeli attacks, end ongoing violence in Gaza and hold Israeli leaders accountable. His statement came during Sunday meetings with Qatar Prime Minister and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulman bin Jasim al Thani, who are bystanders of the summit preparation session.
Al Thani praised Iran’s unwavering solidarity with Qatar, urging Muslims and Arab countries to strengthen efforts to support the Palestinian people and resist Israeli hegemony. Qatar has partnered with the US and Egypt since October 2023 to mediate negotiations aimed at stopping Israeli attacks in Gaza, which claims the lives of more than 64,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children.
Meet a Pakistani counterpart
Araguchi met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishak Dal. There, both authorities strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Doha and other Muslims as violations of sovereignty, international law and the UN Charter.
They highlighted the role of the Arab League and the organisation of Islamic cooperation that strengthens Muslim unity at a critical time.
Bilateral conversations with Lebanon, Iraq, Türkiye, Somalia and Egypt
In addition to the bilateral meeting with Pakistan, Aragut held talks with foreign ministers of Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Somalia and Egypt, discussing regional security, coordination and diplomatic strategies aimed at containment of Israeli attacks. Together with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Yousef Rajji, he urged the international community to take immediate steps to halt Israeli military operations in Gaza, Lebanon and the wider regions.
