Tehran – The Iranian Red Cross Conference (IRCS) has collaborated with the International Federation of the Red Cross Associations (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to organize a workshop on the important importance of rehabilitation.
“Rehabilitation isn’t just about providing medical services. It restores life,” said Faisal Mahbu, head of Iran’s IFRC delegation.
“Because we are here, we have a shared mission that helps people regain their dignity, independence and hope through health and rehabilitation,” the IRCS website quotes Mahboob as saying.
Officials made their remarks online Monday while working on a workshop on familiarizing themselves with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Services in the Department of Treatment and Rehabilitation.
“The leadership of the Red Cross and Red Crescent is not limited to titles or positions. Leadership is the choices we make in tough moments, the role models we set for our teams, and the joy we bring to every decision. As a healthcare provider and professional leader, you are at the heart of this mission.
The official continued, “Strategy 2030 reminds us of three important priorities: local measures can be strengthened so that society can depend on its strengths and capabilities, assuring young people and volunteers prepare for leadership, and fostering unsocial efforts.
Keep in mind that leadership is not about being in charge, but about inspiration for others, giving hope and taking action when it matters most, Mahbubu further pointed out.
Vincent Kassad, president of Iran’s International Committee on the Red Cross (ICRC), attended the workshop and said, “This initiative highlights the joint commitment and mutual understanding in the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement.
“The workshops aren’t just aimed at introducing the movement. It serves as an opportunity to think together about what holds us in place and what allows us to provide important services to those in need.”
Medical and rehabilitation professionals have special responsibilities. We practice our principles every day by ensuring quality healthcare, rehabilitation (for people with disabilities), or emergency response.
The workshop aims to improve your understanding of the fundamentals of exercise. Our fundamental principles are international humanitarian law, the duty and mission of the Red Cross, federal and national society. However, it is equally important to consider how these principles directly affect daily work as health professionals.
These concepts are important in ensuring equal access to healthcare, maintaining neutrality in an age of conflict, and maintaining human dignity in the most challenging situations.
The challenges you face are not only medical care, but also humane and ethical. In times of crisis, hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres could soon become places where humanity is being tested.
Based on our principles, our unity means humanity, equity, neutrality, independence, volunteer service, unity, and universality. It goes beyond words to become a compass that guides us and ensures that the people we serve can trust us.
The importance of rehabilitation in humanitarian missions
Working on the event, IRCS Director of International Affairs Razieh Alishvandi highlighted the importance of rehabilitation in relief and rescue services, considering that it is an important part of supporting those affected by the crisis.
Rehabilitation means restoring life, mobility, personal independence and psychological peace to those affected by the crisis. Without physical and psychological rehabilitation, the life-saving cycle remains incomplete, IRCS quotes Alish Vandy as saying.
Emphasizing IRCS’ experience in providing rehabilitation services to veterans, victims of natural disasters, and patients suffering from difficult-to-treat diseases, officials said IRCS has contributed significantly to rehabilitation progress through the establishment of specialized treatment and rehabilitation centers.
“A single country cannot tackle the outcome of a crisis, but global solidarity and cooperation can help those struggling during difficult times. Rehabilitation is not only limited to treating physical injuries, but also to restoring self-esteem and hope,” she further said.
On his part, IRCS official Hamid Reza Dehan announced that IRCS is ready to promote international cooperation in other societies and in the rehabilitation sector.
The workshop aims to strengthen understanding of the fundamentals of the movement and to support the principle of neutrality in conflict situations. This neutrality is the main foundation of our work, whether ensuring equal access to health services or maintaining human dignity in the most challenging situations, officials noted.
This workshop serves as an invaluable opportunity for widening collaboration with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Association to implement projects in a variety of fields, particularly in mental health. Despite the restrictions, positive outcomes in the treatment sector indicate that society is moving in the right direction.
