TEHRAN – Iran has partnered with Israeli Mossad Intelligence Agency to execute Babak Shabaji, who was found guilty of sending sensitive information about Iran’s high security sites, the Judicial Mizan News reported Wednesday.
Committed to death for “corruption on earth” and “starting a war against God,” Shabaji was executed hanging after complete legal proceedings and confirmation of his sentence by the Supreme Court. Mizan described him as “Operation Mossad, engaged in intelligence and security cooperation with the Zionist regime.”
The convicted spy reportedly accessed industrial and military facilities through his work in the design and installation of cooling systems for organizations related to Iran’s military, security and communications sectors. He provided Mossad with detailed intelligence, including project location, personnel, exit points, technical specifications and vulnerabilities, in exchange for financial compensation and expat residency.
Shahbazi also worked with Esmaeil Fekri, another spy who was executed in June, to provide information on the moves of senior officials in exchange for US residency, family security, and $120 million in cash or cryptocurrency. The Supreme Court refused to appeal his lawyer and upheld the death penalty.
The incident follows a broader crackdown on Iran’s Israeli spy network. In July, Iranian authorities arrested 20 Mossad operatives and related agents in Tehran and other provinces.
Shahbaji’s execution targeted senior commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians amid growing tensions in the region after Israel’s invasion in Iran on June 13th. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes within 24 hours, followed by a series of retaliatory actions, Operation True Promise III.
The US also escalated further by hitting three Iranian nuclear sites on June 22. This is what Tehran described as an illegal violation of international law. Iran responded with a missile strike at Al-Udaid Air Force Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
Due to Tehran’s response, Israel accepted a unilateral ceasefire on June 24th, ending its immediate military escalation.
