Tehran – 1,226,464 Iranians donated their blood during the first six months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 21st.
The highest blood donation growth was recorded in the provinces of Sistan Balchestan, Zanjan and North Holasan, respectively. The Ministry of Health website quotes Shalam Mirzai as saying.
Blood donations in the last month of summer (August 23 to September 22) increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2024. Approximately 192,662 units of blood have been donated this month.
The highest blood donation growth was recorded in the province of Sistan Balchestan (nearly 53%), Yazd (over 39%), and Gilan (about 30%).
Officials went on to say that about 56% of blood donations come from regular blood donors.
The number of female blood donors is increasing thanks to a variety of promotions and cultural campaigns and activities. Currently, the proportion of women who donate blood in the country is around 5%, Mirzaei noted. The North Horasan and (nearly 9 percent), Lorestan (over 8 percent), and Kazbin (over 7 percent) states had the highest blood donation by women.
However, women are expected to be more involved in donating blood.
