TEHRAN – Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani expressed her country’s support for the Gaza ceasefire, stressing that the Gaza ceasefire agreement is “not the end of the road” and that those behind the crimes committed by the Tel Aviv regime must be brought to justice in an international tribunal.
He said the Palestinian people’s resistance is legitimate and an essential part of the process of reclaiming their rights, and called on the international community to take serious steps to fulfill legal and humanitarian responsibility for war crimes and genocide in Gaza and to bring perpetrators to justice.
“We should not be fooled by the Israeli regime or turn a blind eye to its repeated violations of international commitments and agreements,” the spokesperson said, calling on countries to remain vigilant.
“Iran supports a plan that provides for the withdrawal of occupying forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, the freedom of Palestinian prisoners of war, and the realization of their fundamental rights,” she said.
On Thursday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas announced it had reached an agreement with the Israeli regime to end Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, which has lasted more than two years. The deal is based on a proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump.
Although it accepted the proposal, the group issued a harsh warning that the administration could renege on the agreement, citing Tel Aviv’s betrayal of similar deals in 2023 and January of this year.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also warned the international community to remain vigilant against “deceptions and violations of promises” by the Israeli regime following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
After two years of unstoppable genocidal war, the Israeli regime has failed to seize Gaza and dismantle the Palestinian resistance, as it had envisioned after the historic and heroic al-Aqsa flood operation by the Hamas-led Palestinian resistance forces.
From the ruins of homes and refugee camps across Gaza, new forms of resistance, resilience and defiance have emerged over the past two years. Although the Palestinian resistance movement led by Hamas has been battered by the brutal occupation, it remains organized, determined, and deeply embedded in the national consciousness.
The pledge to “eradicate Hamas” became a symbol of the arrogance of the Zionist occupation forces, which were ultimately forced under pressure from the Trump administration to enter into a new truce with the resistance they had sought to annihilate.
Meanwhile, Israel’s strategy of collective punishment – destroying neighborhoods, bombing hospitals and schools, starving civilians throughout the besieged areas – was aimed at breaking the will of the Palestinian people.
But the spirit of sumud, the steadfast spirit of Palestinians who refuse to submit, surrender or abandon their homeland even in the face of unimaginable suffering, has only grown stronger over the past two years.
Families who have been forced to evacuate multiple times are refusing to evacuate. Resistance has evolved and expanded beyond armed struggle, penetrating deeply into other areas of life.
This comes after a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC) ruled that the court’s arrest warrant against the Israeli regime’s prime minister and former military minister was valid, ignoring overwhelming pressure from Israel and the United States.
The judges rejected claims related to warrants issued last November against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
The United States and Western countries have always supported the Israeli regime and sought to prevent the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice from bringing Israeli leaders to justice.
