TEHRAN – Iran’s science attaché in Turkey met with Turkish university officials to explore ways to foster scientific cooperation, especially joint research in emerging sciences.
According to a report by IRNA, in a meeting held between Mohammad Reza Pour Mohammadi and Hacettepe University Rector Mehmet Kahit Gülan, both officials reviewed previous agreements and emphasized the need to expand relations, including joint research projects in cutting-edge fields.
They also discussed providing sabbatical leave for graduate students and holding scientific seminars and conferences focused on regional issues.
In a meeting with Hatice Bakkaloğlu, Vice-Rector of Hajettepe University, both countries emphasized the importance of promoting scientific cooperation between the two countries, in particular the organization of joint graduate courses and the conduct of scientific research.
The Iranian science attaché also attended a meeting with Bilkent University Rector Kurshat Aidan.
Mr. Aidan presented a report on the academic situation of Iranian students. The official said he values scientific cooperation with Iranian universities and called for further joint efforts.
Mr. Pourmohammadi emphasized the implementation of previously signed memoranda of understanding and the expansion of partnership between universities of the two countries.

Shiraz University of Medical Sciences and Suleiman Demirel University in Türkiye have signed a memorandum of understanding on science, research and education.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Shiraz University of Medical Sciences President Seyyed Bashir Hashemi and Suleiman Demirel University Vice President Alim Koshar.
According to the memorandum, the two universities will develop academic exchanges through the exchange of students and professors, implementation of joint research projects, and holding international courses and seminars, Mehr News Agency reported.
The signed MOU will play an important role in promoting science diplomacy and expanding international cooperation. Hashemi also pointed out that this will be the basis for sharing expertise, promoting cutting-edge technology and improving health indicators.
Koshar said this MOU is a milestone in the development of scientific research relations between the two countries. He added: “Cooperating with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, one of the most reliable universities in Iran, will be a great opportunity to strengthen our scientific, educational and research activities.”
According to the Ministry of Science’s website, at a meeting held on April 26, Mohammad Nabi Shahiki, Deputy Minister of Science at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, and Mustafa Aydin, President of the Union of Eurasian Universities (EURAS), detailed the capabilities of each country and explored possibilities for expanding scientific cooperation.
Officials proposed the establishment of a technology transfer office, cooperation in the fields of water technology, energy and artificial intelligence, and the implementation of joint projects between Iranian and Turkish scientific and industrial research institutes with a priority on technology transfer to the industrial sector.
Both sides agreed to launch a joint research center for digital economy. Other agreed programs included a partnership to hold regular start-up events and to define joint postdoctoral projects in the fields of modern agriculture, biomaterials and biotechnology.
Officials also announced their readiness to foster ties between universities in the two countries to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation.
