Tehran – The International Science and Technology Cooperation Center (CISTC) supports Iranian and Iraqi researchers in carrying out joint research projects.
The joint convocation was announced in line with the agreement reached during the Iran-Iraq Science Week held in January and aims to deepen scientific ties between the two countries and establish and expand joint scientific infrastructure to meet the needs of both countries in the field of technology, Mehr News Agency reported.
Priority will be given to research projects focused on climate change, biodiversity and native species conservation, food security, bioeconomy, sustainable agriculture and livestock farming, oil, gas and energy.
The 2nd Iran-Iraq Science Week was held in the Iraqi city of Karbala from January 18 to 20, with the aim of strengthening scientific, academic and technological ties between the two countries. The two countries signed an action plan to promote scientific cooperation.
The action plan was signed by Omid Rezaei Far, an official at the Ministry of Science, and Haider Abd Dahed, Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
A joint scientific program was developed focusing on various aspects, including strengthening cooperation on the granting of scholarships for graduate and postgraduate education, especially within the framework of the title “Study in Iraq”.
This included organizing training courses for professors and students. Facilitate cooperation on joint scientific supervision. Exchange professors to carry out scientific research and establish a science and technology park in Iraq in cooperation under the management of higher education and scientific research in Iraq.
Saeed Habiba, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology, announced that the Iraqi Ministry of Science is ready to award 200 scholarships.
The official stressed that “promoting joint activities and creating equal opportunities for the scientific and cultural development of both countries is one of our most important policies.”
On January 17, Iraq’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Abdi emphasized the importance of exchanging professors and students and implementing joint educational programs with Iran to meet Iraq’s scientific and research needs.
IRNA quoted al-Abdi as saying: “Iran is a role model in the region in terms of scientific advances in modern technology, nanotechnology, biotechnology and medicine. Iraq is interested in benefiting from Iran’s valuable experience and expanding its technological and scientific infrastructure. The establishment and expansion of science and technology parks is one of our main priorities.”
He made the remarks during a meeting with Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simai Salaf, underscoring the need to promote scientific exchanges and develop a comprehensive roadmap for future cooperation.
