TEHRAN – Iran has executed a Mossad operative convicted of espionage and “waging war against God,” the Qom provincial judiciary announced Sunday, the latest in a series of counter-espionage operations against Israeli espionage in the country.
According to judicial authorities, the execution took place at Qom Prison in the early hours of Saturday, October 18, after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict and rejected the convict’s appeal for clemency.
Qom Governor General Hojatleslam Seyyed Kazem Mousavi said the spy began cooperating with Israeli intelligence in October 2023 and was arrested four months later in February 2024. The spies confessed to collecting and transmitting classified information to the Mossad and working under the direction of Israeli agents.
After extensive intelligence investigation and the collection of conclusive evidence, the court found him guilty of espionage and intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime under Article 6 of the Iranian Law Against Hostile Acts of the Zionist Regime against Peace and Security, and of cooperation with hostile foreign governments, including the U.S. State Department.
Mousavi said the convict initiated contacts with Mossad for personal and professional motives, met with Israeli intelligence agents and sent classified materials via cyberspace. He added that the swift actions of Iranian intelligence and judicial institutions prevented the leak of sensitive information.
The official stressed that Iranian intelligence services remain vigilant against Israeli infiltration attempts.
The executions follow Iran’s recent crackdown on Mossad-related networks. In July, authorities announced the arrest of 20 operatives and affiliated agents across Tehran and other provinces.
The development also comes amid ongoing tensions in the region following Israel’s military invasion of Iran on June 13, which targeted senior Revolutionary Guards commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians. Within 24 hours, the Iranian government counterattacked with retaliatory drone and missile attacks, culminating in Operation True Promise III.
The United States further escalated the conflict on June 22 by attacking three Iranian nuclear facilities, and Iran retaliated with a missile attack on Qatar’s al-Udeid Air Base, the largest American facility in West Asia.
The exchange of hostilities ended on June 24, with Israel agreeing to a unilateral ceasefire under increasing military and diplomatic pressure.
