TEHRAN – Tehran will host the 4th Iran Energy Efficiency Conference (IREEC) 2025 from December 8th to 9th.
According to the Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, the need to manage energy resources, optimize consumption and improve energy efficiency is of particular importance, IRNA reports.
Iran’s high energy consumption and increasing pressure on national resources have doubled the need to develop a culture of thrift in all economic and industrial sectors, utilize modern technology, and achieve productivity gains.
This year’s event aims to serve as a platform to showcase the latest achievements, share knowledge and expertise among experts, and foster public-private collaboration.
Organizing the Expert Committee on Energy Optimization Policy, Energy Optimization in Industry, Buildings and Transport are other sections of the 4th IREEC.
Alongside the conference, national and international companies will showcase their latest technological achievements and innovative solutions in energy optimization and efficiency.
Iran to increase renewable energy power generation capacity
Representatives of Iran, attending the 29th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), underlined the country’s commitment to expanding renewable energy sources through various measures.
These include expanding solar and wind power production capacity and implementing strategies to improve energy efficiency across the residential and industrial sectors, IRNA reported.
The 29th IRENA was held on September 11th and 12th in Abu Dhabi, Dubai. Iran participated in this meeting for the first time.
The conference brought together more than 400 officials from IRENA Member States, comprising 169 countries and the European Union, to provide strategic guidance for IRENA’s work program and address the pressing issues shaping today’s global energy transition.
In August, energy officials said Iran plans to expand its renewable energy capacity from current levels to 7,000 megawatts by the next Iranian calendar year (starting at the end of March 2026).
Jafar Mohammadzadeh, deputy head of investment at the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Agency (SATBA), told IRIB that the government is accelerating solar and other renewable energy projects with the goal of rapidly increasing power generation. He pointed out that the ministry’s plan to add 100MW per week reflects early preparations in this sector.
“Our goal is to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s electricity mix from the current 1.5% to 15% by the end of the term of the 14th government,” he said, adding that Iran’s vast solar power potential provides strong support for this goal.
Mohammadzadeh said renewable energy is particularly valuable because peak electricity demand occurs in the summer and solar power output is also at its highest. He added that small and large-scale solar power projects are being supported through attractive contracts such as long-term guaranteed purchase agreements that allow investors to recover their costs in approximately three years.
He also pointed out that in the short term, some equipment will need to be imported to accelerate the construction of large-scale plants, and the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade will provide support.
