TEHERIN – Iran says a public “criminal confession” by US President Donald Trump confirms Washington’s direct role in Israel’s invasion of the country in June, holding both sides fully responsible for the deaths of civilians, widespread destruction, and attacks on protected nuclear facilities.
The remarks follow Trump’s new admission Thursday to reporters regarding the June invasion of Iran: “Israel attacked us first. That attack was very powerful. I was responsible for it.”
The war lasted 12 days, and the United States publicly entered the war on the 10th day, initially saying it was not involved in the Israeli attack that ultimately killed about 1,100 Iranians.
Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, said in a letter to the U.N. Security Council that President Trump’s comments provided “clear and irrefutable evidence” of U.S. leadership in the attack. Iravani condemned the invasion as a “grave and flagrant violation” of international law and the United Nations Charter. He added that President Trump’s confession “clearly and unequivocally exposes the falsehood” of previous claims that the United States was not involved.
The Iranian envoy declared that both the United States and Israel “bear full and joint responsibility for their aggression and the resulting loss of innocent life, widespread destruction of civilian property and infrastructure, and deliberate targeting of secure and peaceful nuclear facilities.” He emphasized Iran’s sovereign right to hold the United States accountable and pursue legal avenues for reparations.
