TEHRAN – At talks held between Iranian and Russian officials, the two countries explored ways to expand scientific and technological cooperation between their universities.
According to IRIB news agency, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology Masoud Shams-Bakhsh and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Pankin Aleksandr Anatolyevich met on the sidelines of the 43rd General Assembly of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from October 30 to November 13.
During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized promoting joint efforts in various areas such as emerging technologies, basic science, engineering, space technology, artificial intelligence, transportation, energy, environment, earth sciences, oceanography, health, and medicine.
The teaching of Persian and Russian languages in mutual countries, the exchange of professors and students, the promotion of exchanges between Category 2 institutes and centers under the auspices of UNESCO, creative cities and cities of learning were among other areas discussed.
An Iranian delegation led by Minister of Science Hossein Simai-Salaf is participating in the 43rd UNESCO General Assembly.
The UNESCO General Conference is held every two years and decides on policies and main tasks for the coming years. This is the first time that the exhibition will be held outside of Paris.
According to Foreign Minister Shimay Saraf, the main objective is to develop and strengthen scientific cooperation between Iran and the participating countries, according to IRIB news agency. This session will focus on higher education regarding emergencies, ethics, technology, higher education, skills development, and training.
Simaisarraf said Iran has a lot of experience and knowledge in these areas and intends to share it with other countries.
The official further said that the main purpose of higher education in Iran is to promote scientific diplomacy and actively participate in fields such as education, culture, science, civilization, and history.
He expressed the hope that participation in the meeting would lead to bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
MOU regarding technology
In October, Iran International Innovation Zone and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen technical cooperation.
A Russian delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin visited the Iranian International Innovation Zone in Tehran on October 23 to better understand the capabilities of Iranian knowledge-based companies, IRNA reported.
During the meeting, Mr. Hamed Baharifar, Pardis Technology Park official, explained the mission, programs and achievements of the International Innovation Zone. The official introduced the science and technology park’s extensive capabilities and emphasized the importance of promoting international cooperation in promoting the export of knowledge-based products.
Mr. Kurochkin said that the Iran International Innovation Zone is an attractive and dynamic complex.
After visiting companies and technology parks, he pointed out that there is a very wide range of cooperation possibilities between the two countries. “We are interested in leveraging all regional tools to develop these relationships,” Klochkin said.
The official further said that cooperation between Iran and Russia through bilateral relations and international agreements such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will contribute to the development of technology trade between the two countries.
Officials also discussed ways to promote technology exports, financial and banking transactions, and to benefit from the capabilities of regional agreements such as BRICS and SCO.
