TEHRAN – Iran has rejected recent accusations by Canada’s domestic intelligence chief, dismissing them as baseless and fabricated.
Zahra Elshadi, director of U.S. affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacted after Canadian Security Intelligence Agency Director Dan Rogers asserted Thursday that the agency had thwarted a deadly threat allegedly orchestrated by Iran against individuals considered adversaries.
Mr. Rogers claimed that CSIS thwarted an operation involving Iranian intelligence and its proxies, which he described as targeting people it deemed hostile to Iranian interests.
He also said his government agencies had thwarted Russia’s efforts to illegally obtain Canadian technology and equipment, and accused China and India of engaging in espionage and cross-border repression involving Canada.
In response, Prime Minister Ershadi criticized Canada for its continued support of Israel and its role in enabling the genocide of Palestinians.
She argued that the “ridiculous accusations made by Canadian security officials against Iran only distract from the illegal acts and atrocities committed by the Israeli regime in West Asia, and from Canada’s support for those acts.”
Ershadi also condemned efforts by Canadian authorities to prevent routine consular services from being provided to Iranians living in Canada, and urged Ottawa to reconsider what she called its reckless and unjust policy toward Iran.
During Israel’s attack on Gaza, despite the devastating human suffering inflicted on Palestinians, Canada and several other Western countries continued to supply deadly weapons to Israel.
In its first attack on Gaza since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 69,187 people and injured 170,703. The fragile ceasefire took effect from October 10th.
