TEHRAN – At a conference entitled “Resistance as a Social Phenomenon” held at the University of Tehran on November 19, 2025, Iranian sociologists presented data showing the population’s deep support for the concept of resistance and analyzed the evolving role of resistance in the domestic and international spheres.
Organized by the International Social Sciences Association of Iran, the conference featured discussions on the social and cultural aftermath of recent regional conflicts, with a focus on social cohesion, historical memory, and national identity.
Two eminent scholars who spoke at the event pointed to the digital dimension of contemporary resistance. They noted that social capital for causes now “crosses borders” and is expanded in cyberspace through digital activism and artificial intelligence tools, as evidenced by grassroots movements.
The conference ultimately painted a picture of a society emerging from recent invasions and pressures with a strengthened sense of collective purpose and a resilient, globally connected identity of resistance, the presenting scholars said.
