TEHRAN – As Iran and Poland celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, officials from both countries met in Warsaw to discuss expanding cooperation across political, economic, cultural and parliamentary fields, and emphasized their common interest in revitalizing historic ties formed by decades of mutual friendship.
Mahmoud Heydari, Head of Iran’s Department for Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean and Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Pawel Kowal, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish House of Representatives, during a visit to the Polish Parliament.
Isa Kamali, Iran’s ambassador to Warsaw, also attended the meeting.
The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including political, economic, cultural and international issues, as well as prospects for strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Tehran and Warsaw. Both sides emphasized the value of sustained dialogue as relations develop.
Haidari emphasized that Iran and Poland have a long-standing historical relationship, one that goes back many generations and has contributed to a largely positive view of Poland among Iranians. He stressed the importance of direct engagement to build mutual understanding and reiterated Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with Poland at all levels, with a particular focus on parliamentary exchanges.
Kowal pointed to the enduring goodwill many Poles feel toward Iran, forged by Iran’s hospitality to thousands of Polish refugees during World War II. He welcomed further engagement and expressed openness to continued discussions with Iranian officials.
Both sides also noted that next year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Iran and Poland. The two leaders agreed that the 100th anniversary will be an important opportunity to deepen ties and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
