TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Pardis district announced that an armed unit belonging to the terrorist organization Mujahideen Khalq (MEK) has been disbanded following intelligence operations carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ security forces.
The group was involved in a series of anti-security operations across Tehran and Alborz provinces. IRGC officials said Pardis’ cell was dismantled as a result of sustained intelligence surveillance and surveillance.
The statement added that members of the network attacked more than ten government, security and military facilities in both states. They were detained in Pardis after Revolutionary Guards agents tracked their movements and identified organizational links.
Officials said the individuals had recently been trying to obtain materials to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for planned attacks targeting civilians and disrupting security. IRGC intelligence forces reportedly thwarted the plot through timely intervention.
Pardis province is located east of Tehran and is home to over 500,000 people.
MEK has been active since the 1980s. The group has killed at least 17,000 Iranians in terrorist attacks. It has also supported foreign invasions against Iran, including Saddam Hussein’s invasion in the 1980s and Israel’s most recent war in June.
A trial is currently underway in Iran to reveal the full extent of the terrorist group’s atrocities, with victims’ families also present to testify. Previous hearings have focused on kidnapping, torture and public bombings, just a few of the group’s terrorist activities.
According to intelligence reports, the group receives financial and political support from a number of Western countries, including the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Israel has also become a major sponsor of the MEK in recent years. Meanwhile, the terrorist organization is notorious for torturing, imprisoning and killing its own members, and defectors have described it as a “murderous cult.”
