TEHRAN – MAHAK Charitable Research Institute hosted the 2025 SIOP Asia Meetup at its headquarters in Tehran on December 4, 2025, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and representatives from major academic societies for an intensive discussion on the future of pediatric oncology in Iran.
The gathering, held under the auspices of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), aimed to strengthen cooperation between countries and create a forum for knowledge exchange among experts dedicated to improving pediatric cancer care.
The event was hosted by Dr. Hadi Moussakani, Head of Oncology at MAHAK Hospital and SIOP Asia Ambassador, and Dr. Hadiye Eslanpana, Director of International Development and Communication at MAHAK and SIOP member.
The event was attended by representatives from the country’s leading associations and research institutions, as well as medical experts in the field of pediatric cancer and experts in nursing and psychosocial care.

Throughout the conference, attendees discussed common challenges in pediatric oncology, the importance of improving treatment pathways, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between countries in line with global standards. Participants emphasized the value of regular dialogue and mutual learning to improve quality of care and expand support services for pediatric cancer patients.
During the discussion, delegates and experts noted the impact of high drug costs and economic sanctions on drug procurement. Participants also highlighted how cooperation with international organizations such as SIOP can address these challenges for Iran and other Middle Eastern countries.
MAHAK officials noted that hosting the SIOP Asia Meetup reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment to contributing to regional and international platforms focused on childhood cancer. With over 30 years of experience, MAHAK is one of the region’s most active civil society organizations in pediatric oncology.
Speaking at the end of the session, the organizers expressed hope that continued collaboration with SIOP and national partners will support a more unified approach to early diagnosis, treatment, and family-centered care across Iran.
