TEHRAN – The Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran covers several core areas, including the health sector.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the agreement on Friday at an official signing ceremony in Moscow.
Both countries aim to organize state-run health systems and control activities in the health sector, prevent and treat infectious and non-communicable diseases, protect maternal and child health, and establish state regulations for the distribution of medicines and medical equipment. , strengthen cooperation in promoting health promotion, etc. According to the Ministry of Health’s website, its work includes improving lifestyles, conducting medical research, leveraging digital technology in the health system and providing specialized training to health professionals.
The two countries will also strengthen cooperation in the areas of food hygiene, medical safety and epidemiology, based on national laws and policies for the prevention and control of infectious diseases in accordance with international treaties.
Both sides will also strengthen long-term and constructive relations in higher education, science, technology and innovation. Implement joint scientific and technological projects and develop exchanges between interested educational and scientific institutions.
Other contents of the agreement included the exchange of professors and students, the sharing of scientific and technical knowledge, scientific literature, periodicals, and references, and the organization of joint conferences, conferences, and exhibitions.
Cooperation in the field of medical devices
In May 2024, Iran and Russia agreed to strengthen cooperation by implementing joint projects in the field of medical devices.
According to a report by IRNA, a delegation of Russian officials visited the Iranian Institute of Scientific and Technological Research this morning to discuss possible ways to strengthen cooperation.
The Russian delegation expressed interest in cooperating with Iran on technology commercialization of knowledge-based products in the field of medical devices.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Science Hassan Zamanian emphasized the positive relations between Iran and Russia, saying, “With the establishment of the International Science and Technology Park, Iran has succeeded in promoting cooperation with various countries.In particular, Russia through fruitful exchanges and technology exchanges with Iran’s neighboring countries, including Iran,” Zamanian added.
The official referred to the establishment of the Institute of Medicinal Chemistry and elaborated on the institute’s capabilities and future plans in the production of medical devices and orphan drugs, and commercialization of manufactured products.
The delegation visited prominent projects in the field of medical devices, including the production of dialysis machines, portable laboratories, and angiography machines at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Research, and gained insight into the scientific capabilities of the Iranian Institute of Science, Technology and International Scientific Research. During initial negotiations, Russian officials called for a similar project to be implemented in Russia.
Both sides have already agreed on the implementation of joint projects and the establishment of affiliated companies from each country in their respective international technology parks.
On March 1, a comprehensive document between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was signed by Deputy Minister of Health Mohammad Hossein Niknam and Russian Deputy Minister Sergei Glagolev.
The agreement was signed on Friday during the closing ceremony of the 17th Joint Economic Committee in Tehran.
This memorandum was finalized after several rounds of technical negotiations between the two countries’ ministries of health.
This laid the foundation for cooperation between the parties in various areas, including joint supply and production of medicines and medical equipment, modern and digital technologies, and academic cooperation, the Ministry of Health’s website reported.
