TEHRAN – Army ground forces in northwestern Iran have begun a series of offensive military drills as part of a large-scale national exercise.
The training, which began Sunday night in Turbat-e-Jam, Razavi Khorasan province, marks a broader change in training, which previously focused on defensive maneuvers.
According to a statement from the Iranian military, this phase of training will last for two days and is aimed at strengthening combat capabilities while showcasing the latest advances in weapons and military technology. This includes coordinated efforts among various units, including artillery divisions, armored divisions, helicopter units, unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles, and electronic warfare units.
The large-scale military exercise, marking the start of the year for Iran, involved multiple branches, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Artesh (Army), Basij, and Coast Guard, among others.
In the course of these exercises, Iran has so far unveiled two new underground military bases, practiced interception of bunker-busting attacks near nuclear facilities, and simulated counterterrorism operations in western provinces. . The exercise is expected to continue for several more days.
