TEHRAN – Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ziad Al-Nahla expressed his deep gratitude for Iran’s courageous stance and unwavering support to the Gaza residents.
In a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday, he underlined his firm determination to achieve human and legal rights, including the right to self-determination and freedom from the clutches of occupation.
The leaders reiterated that the Palestinian Resistance Forces remain resolute in their efforts to secure justice and freedom in their homeland and vowed to continue their struggle with determination and resolve.
Iran’s foreign minister praised the Palestinians’ “unparalleled victory” against Israel in the Gaza Strip after 15 months of devastating conflict.
Araghchi emphasized the resilience of the Palestinian people as a decisive factor in Israel’s approval of the ceasefire agreement.
“After 15 months of genocide and brutality, the Zionist regime has failed to achieve its malign objectives and has been forced to bow to the resilient will of the Palestinian people,” Araghchi said.
The ceasefire was approved by the Israeli regime on Friday, and a six-week truce period begins on Sunday. The phased agreement aims to end a conflict that has claimed at least 46,788 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children. Hamas also supports the deal, praising the sacrifices of Palestinian fighters and civilians to thwart Israel’s wartime goals.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s “principled and unwavering position” of supporting the Palestinian cause and legitimate right to resist the occupation.
Solidarity between Iran and Yemen in the Gaza conflict
Separately, Araghchi discussed the ceasefire with Yemeni Foreign Minister Jamal Ahmed Ali Amer in a telephone conversation on Saturday night. Iranian diplomats emphasized the importance of regional solidarity in supporting the Palestinian resistance movement.
“The ceasefire is a result of Gaza’s resilience and the support the resistance front, including Yemenis, has provided to oppressed Palestinians,” Araghchi said.
Prime Minister Amer welcomed the cease-fire, but warned that future support for Yemen depended on Israel’s compliance with the agreement and a complete end to the genocide. He also briefed Araghchi on developments in the situation in Yemen and expressed gratitude for Iran’s political and moral support amid external aggression.
The Gaza ceasefire agreement, which began after Hamas’ retaliatory operation against the Israeli regime on October 7, 2023, marks a key moment in the region.
Israel aimed to achieve goals such as releasing prisoners and eliminating Hamas, but despite the conflict’s devastating toll, these goals remain unfulfilled.
Under the phased agreement, Israel will release 1,900 Palestinian detainees in exchange for 33 Israeli prisoners held in Gaza. Additionally, Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from the Philadelphia Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border.
