TEHRAN – Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, stressed the importance of strengthening security on the Iran-Pakistan border during an official visit to Islamabad on Monday.

He emphasized that border security is the most important issue facing both countries today, and stressed the need for continued cooperation and enhanced cooperation between the two countries.

Tehran and Islamabad have significantly deepened their military cooperation in recent years. In 2023, the two countries embarked on a joint border security exercise aimed at strengthening operational coordination to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and other illicit activities.

Monday’s high-level talks also addressed Pakistan’s involvement in Iranian naval exercises, cross-border exchanges and Afghanistan-related issues of concern to both countries.
General Bagheri’s visit will be his third visit to Pakistan after July 2018 and October 2021.
