TEHRAN – Iranian authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with a recent armed attack in Tehran that claimed the lives of two judicial judges Ali Ragini and Mohammad Mokhiseh.
“Following this heinous act, an extensive investigation was immediately launched by the security services under the supervision of the Tehran prosecutor,” judicial spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said in a briefing on Wednesday.
The spokesperson revealed that several individuals connected to the attack have been identified and significant progress is being made. “Of those arrested, at least three individuals have confirmed links to specific groups. Investigations into their role, connections to the perpetrators and the support they provided are ongoing. Investigations are ongoing. Once completed, the findings will be shared with the public,” he added.
In the weapon recovered from the attacker, a spokesperson noted that it was a non-standard firearm, and an investigation into its origin continues. He also said that a suspect was arrested in one of the provinces and was being transferred to Tehran for further questioning.
The judges worked on cases combating crimes against national security, espionage, and terrorism.

The judiciary also provided an update on incidents involving the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy. The attacker, who was sentenced to execution, referred his case to the Supreme Court before being transferred to Tehran’s Criminal Execution Department for execution.
“The execution process requires the victim’s family to formally request execution. Once this request is submitted, the case will be sent to the relevant authorities for final approval for execution. The case is currently in the execution stage. “Further steps will proceed immediately. The family will submit a request,” the spokesperson explained.

The judiciary is also grappling with the controversial death of a Swiss national in Semnan prison, which has attracted international attention.
A spokesperson revealed that the individual entered Iran in October as a tourist in a private vehicle through the Dogaloon border. He traveled through several states before being arrested in the restricted military zone of Semnan. “The detainee, who was born in Namibia and holds Swiss citizenship, was arrested on suspicion of photographing a sensitive military location and collaborating with a hostile state. The Swiss embassy in Tehran was notified immediately after the arrest. ” he said.
While in custody, his personal needs, including a vegetarian diet, were reportedly met. However, the spokesperson gave details of the detainee’s suicide. “On the day of the incident, after breakfast, he turned off his phone and, in an area not covered by cameras, he used a curtain to hang himself in the bathroom. Although prison staff quickly responded, , despite their efforts, he died.”
Switzerland is demanding a full investigation into the incident. Iranian authorities confirmed that a delegation from the Swiss embassy and a trusted doctor inspected the scene and confirmed the cause of death. The body was transferred to a forensic institution in Tehran before being handed over to Swiss representatives.
A spokesperson for the judiciary assured that the results of these investigations will be made public as they develop.
