TEHRAN – Iran’s vice president of strategy, Mohammad Javad Zarif, declared on Saturday that Iran achieved its ability to independently protect security and dismissed concerns about external dependencies.
“We are not concerned about our security and do not rely on foreign forces to ensure that,” he told Iranian media, stating that the nation’s progress in this area I emphasized it.
Zarif stressed the need to pivot towards economic and technological advances, saying, “Now we must take a step forward to strengthen our economic resilience and technical capabilities to promote progress.” I stated.
He emphasized that future efforts will focus on addressing domestic challenges to maintain development.
Working on a recently signed treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia outlines a 20-year roadmap for bilateral relations, in which Zarif details the origins of the agreement.
“The proposal for this document was drafted during my tenure as Foreign Minister and discussed with President Putin,” he explained, making it clear that the treaty was built on the previous framework.
Zarif served as Iran’s top diplomat from 2013 to 2021.
He said that the finalization took place under the current administration and “everything has been taken to ensure a balanced document consistent with the national interest.”
Zarif further ensured that legal protection measures will be supported during the ratification of the Congress to prevent ambiguity, saying, “The honorable Foreign Minister and the Ministry’s legal team have a full understanding of the legal nuances of the treaty.” ” he added.
The document will be presented to Congress immediately for approval, he said.
In the Russian capital last month, Tehran and Moscow strengthened their alliance with signing the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnerships, hosted by Presidents Masudo Pezeshkian and President Vladimir Putin.
Regarding regional diplomacy, Zarif reiterated that cultivating relationships with neighbors remains a top priority for all governments, including the incumbent 14th Government.
“Regional relations are the most important focus for the Iranian government,” he asserted, pledging his office to advance these efforts.
Zarif visited Iraq on Thursday to strengthen bilateral relations and promote regional stability.
During his trip, he engaged in a series of high-level discussions with senior Iraqi officials, focusing on working on deeper cooperation and common challenges.
