TEHRAN – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagh Karibah has reiterated Iran’s commitment to Lebanon’s independence and self-determination, saying Iran will support the Lebanese decision.
“Iran supports the decision made through Lebanon’s national consensus,” Karibah told reporters in Beirut following a meeting with his counterpart Nabi Beli.
The Parliamentary Speaker traveled to Lebanon on Saturday night to attend the funerals of late Hezbollah leaders, Sayad Hasan Nasrara and Seyd Hashem Safiedin.
The funeral held on Sunday attracted huge crowds from all of Lebanon and from wider areas. Observers say the queue was the largest ever seen in the country.
“The funeral for martyrs of resistance showed the strength of the resistance front and the deep affection that Lebanese people had in sacrificed Hassan Nasrara,” Karibah said. My heart beats in Lebanon, Palestine and the Islamic world. ”
In addition to meetings with Beli, Iran’s chairman was separate chairpersons from Lebanese President Joseph Ounu and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
In his discussion with Salam, Karibah once again declared that his country would support a solution supported by the people of Lebanese, the government and resistance. He said Iran is ready to help rebuild the areas where Israel was crushed in 2023 and 2024 before the ceasefire comes into effect in late November. Karibah also stressed that he should have since tackled repeated violations of Israel’s ceasefire, and that the regime should be forced to stop the attack before it collapses the deal.
“So far, the Zionist regime has violated at least 40 ceasefires. Its forces have not fully withdrawn from Lebanon and continue to attack different parts of the country each week under different pretexts.” The experienced Iranian politician told the prime minister.
Israel’s latest violation took place on Sunday. This is because the regime’s fighters flew around hundreds of thousands of mourners in an attempt to disrupt the funerals of Nasrara and Safidine. Several Iranian officials have accused the move of terrorist acts, including Karibah, who said Israel had failed to defeat the Lebanese people again.
Lebanon “examines” the reestablishment of Tehran-Beirut flights
A key point in the discussion during Karibah’s visit to Beirut is the recent suspension of flights to Tehran-Beirut by Lebanese authorities, a decision that appears to have been influenced by pressure from Israel and the US.
The Iranian chairman said the decision was a subtle sign of Washington’s interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs. Salam said the Arab state is considering reestablishing the flight. He did not provide details.
The suspension of flights has sparked days of protests at Rafiq Hariri International Airport, where Lebanese citizens have accused the government of enacting Israeli policies. Anti-Israel sentiment has surged particularly over the past year after the deaths of thousands of Lebanese citizens and the massive destruction of southern Lebanon at the hands of the regime.
Analysts believe Israel and the US want Israel and the US to separate Lebanon from Iran with the help of halting flights.
