Tehran – From the beginning of the current water year (September 23, 2024) to February 28, rainfall recorded 78.8 mm of rainfall, down 42.9% from the long-term average of 137.9 mm, according to the measurement organization.
The latest data shows that last week, which ended on February 28, the country received a total of 3 mm of rain, a 57.4% decrease in the long term compared to 7 mm.
From the beginning of Iran’s last month (February 19) to February 28, about 5.2 mm of rainfall was recorded, showing a 45.1% decrease in the long term compared to 9.4 mm.
From the beginning of winter until February 28th, recorded rainfall reached 44.9 mm, 43% less than the normal amount recorded, at 78.8%.
South Horasan and Mazandaran are the only states that have experienced an increase in rainfall compared to the long-term average and have experienced an increase of 8.8 mm.
There is less precipitation in other states than usual. Kohgiluyeh – Boyerahmad has received lowest rainfall, recording 73% less rain than usual.
Tehran is one of the fewest rainfall provinces. In the current water year, we only received an average of 82.8 mm. This shows a 39.8% decrease compared to the recorded 146.7 mm on the long-term average.
Rain over 250mm in the previous water
The previous water years (September 22, 2023 – September 22, 2024) ended with a precipitation of 252.7 mm.
The low precipitation of the previous water at the beginning of the year was a concern, but the amount of precipitation improved over time.
Due to years of drought, some states are suffering from water shortages, as increased rainfall did not compensate for the country’s water shortages, the IRNA reported.
A total of 10 states have less rainfall than normal.
According to the latest report, the total recorded rainfall for the previous water fiscal year (ends September 23) was 252.7 mm. This means an increase of 19% compared to the 212.9 mm rain received in September 2022 – September 2023.
It shows a 2% increase compared to the long-term figure of 248.7 mm.
