TEHRAN – At the Conference of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ Conference (CFM) meeting in Jeddah on Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut made harsh criticism of Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza and called for immediate collective sanctions on the system.
The conference was convened in response to Iran’s demands and accused Aragut of denouncement of the West with a “genocide campaign” against the Palestinians.
“Graduate sanctions against Israel should be imposed as a practical and immediate measure to stop the crime,” Araguchi argued that the OIC had emphasized that rhetoric must be translated into actions.
He criticized the United States for allowing Israeli attacks through military and diplomatic support, saying “the Zionist regime, encouraged by unconditional US support, commits unimaginable abuse, including war crimes, ethnic cleansing and genocide.”
Top Iranian diplomats have condemned the recent US proposal to forcefully relocate Gaza’s population as a violation of international law, warning that such a plan will “eliminate Palestine” and deepen regional instability.
“Scale that changes the demographic fabric of Gaza is unacceptable,” he stressed, calling for rejection to eliminate the OIC-led resolution at the UN General Assembly.
Araguchi has also targeted companies conspiring to maintain Israeli occupation, urging the OIC to halt “companies that directly or indirectly support Israeli crimes” and develop a blacklist of such companies.
He repeated Iran’s unwavering support for Palestinian resistance, saying, “Palestinians have an inviolable right to protect themselves — they have rights set out in international law, not subject to Western hypocrisy.”
The minister also called for Tel Aviv’s expulsion from the United Nations, citing obstruction of the UNRWA operation, rebellion of the resolution and designation of the UN Secretary-General as Persona Non-Grata.
“The only apartheid regime of the 21st century should not enjoy the legitimacy of this body,” he declared.
While the country supported a resolution at the conference that approved Egypt-promoted plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, Aragut outlined Iran’s reservations, including opposing the two states’ solutions.
“One democratic nation representing all Palestinians is the only viable path to justice,” he argued, rejecting the implicit recognition of the Israeli regime.
The OIC session concluded with an international reconstruction campaign and a day of memory for the unrecognized victims of Gaza.
“Our commitment to Palestine is unwavering,” he asserted, urging the OIC to support its founding principles. “This meeting should mark a turning point with actions, not just words.”
