TEHRAN – Iran’s Ambassador Mojtabaamani, Lebanese, released a poignant criticism of the Israeli regime’s role in destabilizing the Syrian regime in an interview with Iran’s national television on Saturday, describing the ongoing conflict by Tel Aviv as a calculated effort to promote geopolitical ambitions.
“The Zionist regime benefits from the fragmentation of Syria,” the ambassador declared, saying Israel and its Western allies have coordinated a campaign to “weak and divide the nation to ensure their interests.”
He stressed that a decade of Syria’s civil war, exacerbated by external interference, left the government with vulnerable and safe institutions that “cannot restore stability.”
Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, the Israeli regime has stepped up air strikes on Syrian military targets, decimating infrastructure and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
In addition to this confusion, Israeli forces have invaded and captured Syrian territory, making the area even more unstable.
Meanwhile, the new government led by Hayat Taharil al-Sham (HTS), strengthened by Turkish support, has proven powerless by stopping Tel Aviv’s relentless aggression.
“Israel’s actions in Syria aim to rehabilitate the post-Gaza image while solidifying the Levant’s footsteps,” the ambassador has linked the recent infrastructure destruction to Tel Aviv’s “expansionist goal.”
The ambassador also criticized Syrian neighbors for being indifferent to the collapse, saying “certain Arab countries have not hidden their desire for Syria’s fragmentation.”
He chose HTS leader Ahmad Al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad al-Julani) for not suppressing violence, and argued that such institutional weaknesses were consistent with Israel’s goals. “The government’s promises for pardon and reform are not met and exposes its vulnerability,” he added.
Denominational violence and “hunter massacre”
The ambassador, who dealt with recent clashes between HTS extremists and armed opposition groups in Syria’s northwestern coastal region, home to the Alawian minority, described the violence as “hunters indiscriminately slaughtering prey” and attributed it to religious religious groups that fueled foreign interference.
“Civilians are paying the price of political and sectarian agendas,” he warned, warning that the crisis is at risk of swirling into an irreversible humanitarian disaster.
The ambassador emphasized not only that the recent surge in violence has continued, but also strengthened instability, while also sharply criticizing the international community for its lack of action.
In pursuit of unity and cooperation, the ambassador urged local authority to “act with wisdom and prudence to block plans for enemy division.”
He also highlighted Iran’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Syrian territory, saying “only through unity we can block divisive schemes and protect a shared future.”
