The US announced that Vice President JD Vance had deleted the commander of the Pitafik Space Station in Greenland on Thursday, due to “loss of trust in her capabilities,” after a controversial visit to the semi-automatic island last month, CNN reported.
“An action to undermine the cycle of orders or overturn President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated by the Department of Defense,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced the removal of Susannah Myers in a statement posted on X on Thursday.
After Vance visited the island in late March, Military.com reported that Meyers had pushed back the Vice President’s actions and comments during the trip and sent an email to Spacebase. Parnell included a link to the Military.com story on X Post.
The news site reported that the exiled commander wrote in an email: “I don’t think I’ll understand politics at the moment, but the US administration concerns discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday do not reflect Pitafik’s space base,” he wrote.
According to a press release from the Space Operations command, Colonel Shawn Lee took over Myers’ position.
As President Donald Trump vowed to acquire the land “in some way” there is a continuing move for US control over Greenland, with Vance repeatedly claiming that the island is vulnerable and that the US “has no other option.”
