The Turkish Ministry of Defense will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Navy Commander’s Headquarters in Ankara on Tuesday and Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
The conference is intended to discuss military planning measures to maintain peace in the region, particularly in the event of a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, the ministry said in a statement.
Military representatives from various countries are expected to be present, with discussions centered on the maritime aspect of maintaining stability in the Black Sea. The list of participating countries has not been revealed.
The meeting is based on previous collaborative efforts, including the establishment of the Black Sea Task Group, establishing Mining Measures in July 2024. The Turkey-led initiative in cooperation with Romania and Bulgaria has begun to deal with the threat of drifting sea lightning that emerged after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukraine conflict.
On Saturday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss a variety of issues, including the Ukrainian conflict and the safety of voyages in the Black Sea.
