A city in southwestern Kuzestan, Ize is moving forward to becoming a national Kilim city due to the unique quality of Kilim in hand. This measurement introduces the global craft scene.
Experts believe the city could potentially be registered globally, Mehr’s news agency reported.
A traditional hand-woven rug inspired by nature, agriculture and tribal life, Kilim has a special status in the culture and life of the Iranian people.
This art reached the peak of Ise’s prosperity.
Shokrollhollah Qasemi, deputy director of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of Khuzestan, said that the initial assessment process for the registration of Izeh as a national city of Kilim took place in the presence of Behzad Ahmadi Farsani, Director of the Job Affairs of Handicrafts Education.
He said that kilim waving workshops, urban elements decorated with kilim patterns, and frequent demands from the people of Ize show serious determination to achieve this goal.
If the required indicators are obtained, Izeh Dossier will be sent to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Monuments Registration Bureau, he added.
Based on official statistics, Izeh has over 29 active kilim weaving workshops and two official institutions, he said. Nearly 500 Weavers received kilim weave certificates last year in Iran, he added. Seven artisans achieved this to achieve the excellence of kilim weave, he pointed out.
Qasemi continued that the prominent growth of the Kilim-Weaving workshop in recent years has transformed Izeh into one of the main hubs of Kilim fabrics. “We tapped all Izeh facilities to create sustainable jobs and increase city income.”
Ize, a city in southwestern Iran, has a considerable range of global recognition for its rich tradition of kilim weaving.
According to handicraft researcher Abbas Rahimi, Ize holds the important possibility of being registered as the world’s city of Kilims by the World Crafts Council (WCC) if certain infrastructure improvements are made.
Located in the northeastern province of Kzestan, Ize has long been a hub that weaves kilim carpets.
In an interview with Isna, Rahimi emphasized that Ize’s Kilim is already in a nationwide registered process.
He emphasized that the city needs to better organize its existing facilities in order to gain international recognition.
Ize has more potential than Dezful (another ancient city in the state), which was recognized as a world city of crafts weaving baskets, Rahimi said.
He pointed out the richness of the city’s kilim weaving workshops and cooperative businesses as evidence of its capabilities.
Rahimi pointed out that kilims produced in Izeh are not only decorative but also very functional. He explained that international recognition can significantly increase the outlook for cities of development and progress, and transform Isee into a global hub of Kilim’s art.
To help Izeh achieve WCC recognition, Rahimi invited the World Crafts Council evaluators to highlight the importance of visiting the city’s Kilim Weaving workshops, cooperatives, markets and training centres.
Located 180 km from Ahvaz and known for its rich ecotourism, Izeh is home to the Bakhtiari tribe whose members speak the Bakhtiari dialect. Located in the semi-magazine region, the city plays an important role in the cultural and handicraft landscape of Fuzestan.
Kilim, a carpet or rug with a flat tapestry, has traditionally been produced in Iran and other countries of the former Persian Empire.
