According to CNN, serious blackouts have affected Spanish capital, Madrid, and other major cities, including Barcelona, Seville and Valencia.
Speaking on state television, Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida asked people to minimize their movements and only call emergency services in the event of an extreme emergency. He also urged people to keep roads away for paramedics.
Madrid’s metro said in a statement that all services had been suspended due to “lack of power.”
Local media reported that parts of the metro had been evacuated.
Meanwhile, local media said Barajas Airport, Madrid’s major international airport serving the capital, is reportedly handling blackouts with flight tracker services that show flight cancellations and delays.
