Just as the world observed World Press Freedom Day on May 3, journalists held the banner, gathering to Khan Eunice for demonstrations, turning their attention to the journalists who lost their lives in Israel’s ruthless attack on Gaza.
Palestinian journalists in Gaza endure one of the darkest chapters in the history of the press. In the enclaves, cameras become targets, and words can take their lives as the Israeli war of massacres intensifies.
Once the mission of reporting the truth became a risk of daily death. Since October 7, 2023, at least 212 Palestinian journalists have been killed, according to official and local statistics.
The Palestine Human Rights Centre recently confirmed that since 1992 the highest number of journalist deaths recorded worldwide in a single conflict. Journalists have described their occupation as well as being “burned in the air.”
