President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he would impose a 100% tariff on diplomatic production films, marking the first time that he marked his restrictive trade policy when it expanded into the entertainment industry, RT reported.
In his post on the Truth Social Platform, Trump argued that the American film industry is dying with “very fast deaths” due to the incentives provided by the US film industry to seduce American filmmakers.
Since returning to the office in January, Trump has peaked with the “liberation day” tariffs introduced on April 2, targeting more than 90 US trading partners and imposing swept tariffs. 10% of the baseline were effective, but most were suspended for 90 days. China was removed from the suspension and was hit by a 145% tax on all imports. Beijing retaliated with a 125% tariff and new export controls on US goods.
Trump said he directed agencies, including the Commerce Department, to start “quickly” with 100% tariffs on all diplomatic films entering the United States.
