The Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister arrived on Friday for a “official visit” to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, and on a potential mission to ease tensions between the country and its neighbor India, CNN cited Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry as saying.
Adele Al-Jubair’s surprise trip has urged regional leaders to mitigate cross-border attacks after the latest military flares over the long-standingly controversial regions of Kashmir, with nuclear forces insisting on full sovereignty by both countries.
A source from Pakistan’s senior government told CNN that Islamabad is “giving space for diplomacy” ahead of the potential response to India’s first attack early on Wednesday.
The Saudi Arabian minister landed from New Delhi and met Indian Foreign Minister S. jaishankar on Thursday to discuss “Indian perspectives in combating Indian terrorism,” the latter said in a post in X.
The Persian Gulf Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are among the top candidates to mediate these potential negotiations given their close ties with India and Pakistan.
