SOUTH LEBANON – After sporadic attacks over the past two weeks, the Israeli occupation regime launched a series of violent attacks in Lebanon’s regions on Thursday.
The escalation of the attack preceded the fourth and final round of mayoral and mayoral elections in the Southern Governor and Navatier province, which took place on the 25th anniversary of resistance and liberation.
Despite the threat of the enemy to not allow popular gatherings in border areas, people responded enthusiastically. They showed enthusiasm for a massive participation in the election scheduled for Saturday (May 24), contrary to the ongoing US-led attacks from Israel.
The region retains extraordinary strategic importance, especially given that the region is in direct contact with occupied Palestine, which remains under occupation, after the Israeli regime refused to withdraw in violation of the ceasefire agreement and UN resolution 1701.
The main challenge facing the Lebanese government is to protect election security to prove that Israel feels its active and illegal actions are unlimited.
A few weeks ago, official contacts were made with the US side to ensure election retention (particularly along the border zone) in the South, and the government was in the process of distributing prefabricated homes for use as polling stations, but the US side was not convinced.
Approximately 90 hours before the polls began, the enemy carried out four assassinations in various regions, and then targeted Navatier, one of the largest election centres in the South, with exceptional polling stations designated as residents of the border village adjacent to occupied Palestine.
It is noteworthy that the two southern governors are key hubs of Shia duo, Hezbollah and Amal movements, representing the key core of the resistance movement. Therefore, turnout that comes from the ballot box sends important messages.
Elections are primarily developmental, but can be made accordingly because they are an opportunity to measure postwar South pulsation based on objective democratic mechanisms rather than political interpretations.
Without a doubt, the anti-resistance team is actively urging people to create loopholes in southern municipalities to make use of it in the May 2026 parliamentary elections. Even retracting a single Shia seat would be enough to strip the Shia duo of the fateful position of the House of Representatives speakers.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem has already sent a message to the people of southern Lebanon, calling for them to take part in the elections of local governments and mayors on a large scale, and for participation to be part of the steady and conflict with Israeli occupation.
On his part, Congress President Navi Beli urged Southern voters to take part in large scale in their capabilities as leader of the Amal Movement.
Meanwhile, the Shiite duo managed to form around 100 municipalities, particularly despite all malicious instigation campaigns and attempts to prevent reconstruction, reflecting the widespread popularity support for resistance options, particularly reflecting the widespread popularity support for resistance options.
