South Lebanon – Given the US pressure to serve only the interests of Israel’s enemy, concerns are growing over the US position to renew the UN interim force orders in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon at the end of August.
The move comes after a leaked report from Tel Aviv to the Washington Near East Policy Institute, where investigators claim they received confessions from resisting detainees who allegedly conspiracy between Unifil’s forces and Hezbollah. This has also come as part of Israel’s diplomatic and military pressure to cancel its mission and to introduce radical change in favour of the US’s direct role through General Michael Renney, head of the Cerez-Fire Supervisory Committee.
Analysts fear that UNIFIL will replace it with a group of international observers serving one clear purpose: Hezbollah’s forced disarmament.
In parallel, Washington continues to strip Lebanese forces of military capabilities to promote military personnel to explode Kolanit missiles collected from Hezbollah stockpiles to denounce the South.
Therefore, the Lebanese army will only assume the role of oversight in preparation for the imposition of a “peace” treaty with Israel.
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Lebanese’s mission to the United Nations has submitted to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to renew the UN President Unifil Guterres to ensure that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Prime Minister Yushev Rajay will ensure the renewal of unity in their current form, and with Israeli integration and US oversight, as well as the renewal of Foreign Minister Unifil.
Sources have made it clear that the real reason for the delay in Lebanese letters is that the Foreign Minister (a minister in the Lebanese military) is subordinate to American directions.
On his part, another minister in the Lebanese army, Telecommunications Minister Charles Hajj, has decided to halt repair work on Bekaa’s communications network, which was damaged by the southern suburbs of Beirut, the south, and the US-led Israeli attacks. Hajj is relentlessly sought for the privatization of Lebanon’s communications sector.
Meanwhile, Lebanon is preparing to respond to the proposal presented by Trump envoy Thomas Barrack during his recent visit to Beirut, saying Israel has recently informed the Cerez-Fire Observation Committee that it will not withdraw before Hezbollah is completely disarmed.
The Al-Jumhuriya newspaper cited the source as a warning of Israel’s escalation in light of the blatant mitigation of the oversight committee and the avoidance of its sponsoring states.
Barrack’s horrifying proposal revolves around: (1) Government vote to disarm Hezbollah. (2) Adopts a step-by-step mechanism. This means that Israel will withdraw from a particular occupying territories in exchange for Hezbollah’s weapons steps.
Reportedly, Shia duo (Hezbollah and the Amal Movement) are open to discussing military weapons of resistance within the government, as long as the approach remains nationalism, protecting the sovereignty of the Regiban and not abandoning purposeless strategic assets.
