Switzerland has launched a lawsuit to dissolve the controversial Geneva branch of the Humanitarian Foundation of the Gaza (GHF) aid group, citing legal shortcomings in its establishment.
Delaware-based US and Israeli-supported GHF registered affiliate marketing in Geneva on February 12th this year.
“The ESA can order the foundation to be dissolved if creditors do not move forward within a legal 30 days,” the Federal Supervisory Office (ESA) said in a creditor’s notice released in the Swiss Official Gazette.
The ESA told Reuters that the GHF did not meet certain legal requirements, including the correct number of board members, postal addresses or Swiss bank accounts.
“The GHF has confirmed to the ESA that it has never conducted any activities in Switzerland and that it intends to disband the Geneva Registry (branch),” the ESA said in a statement.
Last week, Geneva authorities issued another legal notice to the GHF in 30 days to face “organizational defects” or potential actions. More than 600 people have been killed along Gaza’s GHF distribution hub or access roads protected by Israeli military forces, Palestinian authorities said since the controversial group began operating there.
