Dozens of Iranian and German citizens have signed online petitions and filed complaints in the German federal court against Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, according to DW.
The complaint is linked to Prime Minister Mertz’s remarks about group bystanders at the Seven (G7) Summit during an interview with German ZDF TV channels. In these statements, Mertz described Israel’s actions as attacking Iran as “a dirty work for all of us.”
He also expressed “great respect” for the Israeli military and government to take charge of operations.
In a press release issued by the petitioner, Mertz’s statement was characterized as “official support for military attacks that violate international law.” They further emphasized that the Prime Minister’s choice of words led to “inhumanity and rudeness” against Iran and German citizens.
The statement also highlighted the Prime Minister’s responsibility to maintain the German constitution, saying, “His statements contribute to shaping the collective image of the enemy that could disrupt public peace and create an atmosphere of exclusion and condemnation.”
