TEHRAN – Gomrok Caravanjerai, located in Vakir Bazaar in Shiraz, Fars, has been renovated with 49.5 billion rials ($55,078) worth of credit secured by the Ministry of Oil, the state tourism director said.
According to Irib, Mohsen Ziaei added that as part of the rest of the aged that roof was demolished with the aim of brightening up the roof, and the renovation was also carried out in brick arches.
Other restoration measures for the historic building include waterproofing on the south and west roofs, and repairing and restoring the brick walls at the top of the southern and western facades, he said.
He explained that Gomrok Caravanserai is one of the buildings associated with the Zand dynasty. The historic monument added that there are 70 guest rooms on the second floor, and that the first floor is being used as a warehouse.
The building was placed on the National Heritage List in 1925 under No. 924. Previous renovations were carried out during the Kajal era.
Experts believe the building’s incredible architecture and location will be a valuable opportunity for national and foreign tourism in the State of Fars.
