BEIRUT – The Lebanese Parliament held a session on Tuesday, asking Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government about Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon, the reconstruction of housing complexes and the US threat to Lebanon’s sovereignty.
“We no longer understand the work of US envoy Thomas Barrack, as if they had become a test site for these envoys,” MP Jamil Al Seyed ironically stated, “In spite of the existence of a ceasefire agreement, US envoys avoided it by imposing new proposals.”
He said, “Resolution 1701 was adopted by the UN Security Council and is considered our treaty! However, it is not a treaty presented by the US envoy. This is not a way of conducting negotiations.”
MP Al-Sayyed asked, “Does anyone in the government know that details of this proposal have been sent by Israel?”
MP Abdul Rahman Al-Bizri said, “One of the government’s goals is to commit to protecting the unity of Lebanon and the people. But today we live in a state of division under Israeli attacks and occupation before we can drill a hole in the world’s careful eye.”
He said, “What was stated in the Minister’s statement is completely inconsistent with what is being implemented. The government has committed to implementing the TAIF agreement and addressing illegal practices, but has not seen this so far.”
“We support dialogue discussing the issue of disarmament, but we need serious dialogue,” MP Gebran Bassil said, calling for a “solution to the Syrian evacuation crisis.”
MP Elias Bou Saab said, “The government has committed all necessary steps to free all territory from Israeli occupation, in accordance with the national agreement documents adopted by the TAIF. Will the government commit to this issue now?”
“Sovereignty requires decisions and men. We have summoned some ambassadors (Iranian ambassadors). Why did they not summon those who insulted us and trample on our dignity? Where is the Foreign Minister? MP Elias Jarada said.
MP Salim Aoun said, “Five months after the government was formed, no plans have been presented for restoring the funds that have been looted by depositors. The government has not begun to develop plans to recover or hold anyone who has recovered them or wasted clothes.”
He said, “As a strong Lebanon bloc, we have submitted questions to the government regarding the completion of the forensic audit, but have not received any previous responses.”
In parallel, Israeli occupation forces have carried out raids targeting Bekaa and several areas south amid ongoing attacks and five-point occupations on Lebanon. Amal Movement MP Ghazi Zaaiter urged the government to take an stance on aggression.
Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on November 27, 2024, these attacks have led to more than 200 Lebanese citizens martialism.
