More than 100 aid agencies and rights groups, including Save the Children and Doctors of Borders, warned on Wednesday that “mass hunger” was spreading across Gaza, and in addition to Israel’s calls for humanitarian aid restrictions to besieged enclaves, the New York Times reported.
The joint statement is the latest attempt to draw attention to the growing hunger crisis in Gaza. 28 governments, including longtime Israeli allies such as the UK, France and Canada, denounced “intra-drip feeding of aid” on Monday, saying civilian suffering “has reached new depths.”
Gaza’s borderless doctors report a “sharp and unprecedented rise in acute malnutrition.” The aid agency added that adults frequently collapse from hunger, preventing stockpiles of warehouse supplies outside the territory from reaching those in need.
Israel blocked delivery of aid between March and May after ending a ceasefire with Hamas.
