Uruguay has issued a strong statement expressing deep concern about the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the spread of human rights abuses in both Gaza and the West Bank.
In a press release, the Uruguay Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the surprising deterioration of conditions in Gaza and the West Bank. We noticed that hunger spread throughout Gaza. This situation is exacerbated by Israeli actions, claiming the annexation of the West Bank, approved by the Israeli Parliament – Uruguay is firmly opposed.
“The government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay grants access to humanitarian assistance through the United Nations and repeats its urgent call to Israel in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law,” the statement said. It highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to address the growth of Gaza hunger.
Uruguay has also reaffirmed its refusal to all measures aimed at changing the realities of the territorial or demographics of occupied Palestinian territory. The government emphasized its continued support for the 1967 border-based solution of the two states.
